Epiphone Valentine’s Guitar Competition
Winner
My wife, just like an Epiphone, a classic work of art,
When we met so long ago she stole away my heart,
And like so many great guitars on which sweet songs are sung,
She’s highly polished, nicely curved, and beautifully strung.

But the tuning pitch where she’s concerned means so much more to me,
She’s well described by those six notes, E B G D A and E,
She’s most Endearing , Beautiful, and Generous to me,
Devoted, just Adorable and Ever-loved by family.

So now I’ve told you how I feel I hope she has a chance,
For supporting me throughout these years with loving and romance,
And though I may be heading towards the Autumn of my life,
She’s still my Pretty Woman, my ever loving wife.

John O’Neill, Clonsilla, Dublin.

Runner up
Menage à Trois
He loves her.
And he’ll never leave her,
No matter how old she grows.

How tenderly he treats her!

Masterfully, he takes hold of her,
And, with all his loving skills, brings forth:
Wild, uncontrolled crying,
Happy, unabandoned weeping,
Playful giggling,
Seductive, throaty whispers,
Passionate groaning,
Mad, romantic dancing.
Sighs of completion.

And, as he plays her,
He fondles the strings of my heart,
Vibrating the very core of me,
Plunging suddenly, unannounced, into the very centre of my being,
Exposing the raw nerve ends of my emotions!
And then.
Gently soothing the depths of my soul.

Oh yes.
He loves her!
And he would never leave her.
Nor would I ever want him to.
For,
Without her,
Our loving could not be complete

Julie

You have a heart that’s open
You have a heart that’s kind
You have a heart that cares and shares
With all you chance upon
And since you lost your job last year
And you still in your prime
You still put all the family first
Be they yours or mine

You had a Gra for music
And loved to pluck guitar
But gradually through all the stress
The pick was left alone

Now a new year has arrived
And you’ve found your strings again
I know that with an Epiphone
The magic would return
NO one more deserves it
Than my amazing noble swain

RINGO STARR’S NAME CEMENTED A LITTLE PEACE AND A LOT OF LOVE INTO THE
LEGENDARY WALK OF FAME

The event, watched by thousands of fans, took place in front of Capitol Records, at 1750 Vine in Hollywood, where Ringo’s star, the 2401st on the walk, was placed in line with fellow Beatle’s George Harrison and John Lennon as well as dear friend Roy Orbison (whose star was celebrated just last week, with Ringo adding “Roy was the hardest act the Beatles ever had to follow”).

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a special evening event, and it was a full-on Hollywood style celebration, closing off Hollywood and Vine and using search lights to emblazon the night sky. Ringo applauded the change, encouraging the Chamber to continue these in the evening, “I don’t know how it is where you come from,” he said, “but where I live, the stars come out at night.” Leron Gubler, CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, welcomed everyone. On hand to induct Ringo was fellow “mocker” and now brother in law Joe Walsh, musician, friend and former producer Don Was and Ringo’s most recent band mate and friend Ben Harper, who just completed a promotional tour to support Ringo’s current CD Y NOT. In his acceptance speech, Ringo said of his inductors, “I like to spend as much time as I can with great human beings, and the three guys that got up tonight are at the top of my list.” The love was palpable, emulating from the heartfelt eloquent and often funny speeches from Ringo’s friends and the crowd who could not contain their enthusiasm and shouted “Peace and Love!” and “We Love You Ringo!!” throughout the 40 minute plus ceremony. One voice from the crowd reached Ringo and he said into the microphone, with his typical wit, “in case you didn’t hear her she said I look fantastic!”

Sitting to the right of the stage was Ringo’s family, including his wife, Barbara Bach Starkey, and Ringo thanked her from the podium adding “30 years we have been together, she is a beautiful human being with a beautiful heart and that’s who I fell in love with…I love you Barbara.” Ringo also acknowledged The Beatles, and Paul, who was in England and couldn’t attend, saying, “I still think we were the best band in the land.” Sitting next to Barbara was her sister Marjorie Bach Walsh, and friends Barbara Orbison and son Roy Jr, Olivia Harrison, David Lynch, Benmont Tench, Jeff Lynne, Noah Wyle, All Starr’s Edgar Winter and wife Monique, Gary Wright and his wife Rose, Sheila E, Jim Keltner and many more friends and family. Even Mayor Villarigosa, who was scheduled to be at another simultaneous event, meant to just drop by but wound up staying for the duration.

Roy Orbison Jr said of the event “Ringo spent more time talking about Roy Orbison than the Beatles!”

Every pretty woman has her beauty secrets, from DIY facial scrubs to expensive jars of creamy miracle goop, but the ultimate Pretty Woman (Barbara, widow of singer Roy Orbison) is known for her secret, signature scent. Well, it was a secret for about 25 years, but now she’s bottled it and released it for everyone to share.

apothia1

Mrs. Orbison stopped by Apothia at Fred Segal on Melrose to talk fragrance and share samples of her scent, appropriately called Pretty Woman. The blend of florals, spices and woods has been Barbara’s signature scent for over two decades, and she’s been self-mixing the blend from scratch all this time. Now that’s some serious dedication, especially considering that she started mixing fragrances when she was thirteen years old using leftover perfumes and oils from her family members. Which we’re thinking resulted in a lot of mandatory showers, open windows and headaches.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, more Pretty Woman this way >>>

But now Barbara is practically an expert at creating good smells, and finally has an official formula for her scent. What makes Pretty Woman even more note-worthy is the fact the perfume ($80) is actually a 25 percent concentration (most American perfumes are 20 percent or less). And if that’s not enough for you, there’s a perfume rollerball ($50) that’s just pure, straight up perfume oil. Surprisingly, the scent isn’t overpowering, and it truly lasts all day (trust us). It’s a mix of sweet and robust, earthy smells that’s very every-day-wearable.

Barbara kept the packaging simple–the logo is just her own handwriting–to keep the focus on the scent, and tells us that there’s a Pretty Woman lotion and candle in the works. Mercy.

Pretty Women from all around celebrated at the Pretty Woman Perfume launch at Apothia at Fred Segal Thursday, February 4. Barbara shared her signature fragrance with many of her close friends including Barbara Bach Starkey (Ringo’s wife), Olivia Harrison (George’s widow), Marjorie Bach (Joe Walsh’s wife), and Mischa Barton who were all excited to sample the fragrance and mingle throughout the store.

apothia1

Ron Robinson and Karen Meena were gracious hosts as everyone enjoyed sparkling wine, and sweet treats. The beautiful sent filled the air with Roy’s music playing as Barbara signed the perfume bottles.

It was a lovely celebration and a “pretty” great way to welcome Valentine’s Day.
